Why we need to tell others about Jesus.. (Part Two)

3/28/2016

In my last blog we looked at three reasons as to why it is important for us to share the gospel. Each one of these points are not rocket science but it's good to be reminded, inspired and challenged to think about each one of these and allow them to stir us into action to share Jesus with those we both know and strangers we meet - as we read in 1 Peter 3:15 'But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:'

So as well as reaching the lost being central to God's heart, the need for us to tell people about Jesus and the fact that the gospel is urgent, what other reasons are there for us to share this wonderful good news? Here are three more reasons...

4) The harvest is great

The harvest is ripe
Life is full of opportunities. They surround us everyday. Some opportunities we take, others we turn down and some we miss, but they come our way everyday. If we miss an opportunity, maybe when we should have said a kind word, or helped someone through a deed, we can become frustrated, angry and feel guilty. The same can be the case when we miss an opportunity to witness.

When it is harvest time in the natural, the Farmer does not go and stand in the middle of the field and look for the harvest - no, it's right there all around him. Not just one or two ears of corn that can be plucked by hand but a whole field full, just ready for harvesting. The same is true in the spiritual sense, Jesus said 'The harvest truly is plenteous,' (Matt 9:37)

The bible tells us that every thing has it's time., (Ecc. 3:1- 11) and Jesus said the harvest is plentiful, it's large, and its all around us. We have opportunities to speak for Jesus every day - let's listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit in our lives and pray that we take the opportunities to reap the harvest, that work colleague, that friend, that family member.

5. We are commanded to go

‘ and Jesus spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost:  Matt 28:18-20
When my Children were younger there were certain things that they were not give the option not to do i.e not cleaning their teeth was not an option, going to bed late, was not an option, they were given instruction to do certain things and were expected to do them.

With out the need for us to feel constrained, although maybe we should, God has commanded us to go into the world and share the good news of the gospel to those we meet. We may not cross the road as someone said but we can cross the street!

6. Jesus is coming soon

Picture
'There is a well know phrase that was heard spoken by the commentator towards the end of the 19966 world cup final when England beat West Germany, and it's this 'They think it's all over'!, it is now!' One day that will be the case, there will be no need to evangelise, there will be no need to tell others about Jesus, why? Because Jesus will have returned. (As I write this it hasn't happened yet - and neither if you are reading this right now) But it will one day.

The world around us is asking questions, how long can we go on the way we are going? Where are we going? Can this continue? Its as if we are in a 'they think it's all over' kind of moment. Maybe we are - and that's why we need to share Jesus - because one day it will be!

Hi Steve,
I love the new format of your news letter. Rosemary was on good form at Elmwood last Sunday, very happy to share about your work in India. Please be praying for a team of street workers/ preachers that God is raising up in Bromley from a variety of churches, for his order to be evident and for things only to develop at the moving and leading of His Spirit, not by personality or human wisdom.
There is a growing openness to the gospel here, and many evangelists independently are also on the streets. It is a very special time in our history. We need to move very sensitively to His leading.
God bless you,

Andrew Carter
